ABOUT

From the backrooms of Brooklyn's queer nightlife scene to the dusty oil fields of West Texas, Cody is a filmmaker who creates character-driven stories that unite audiences, equal parts cinematic and entertaining.

Cody Stickels (he/they) is a 2024 Film Independent Documentary Story Lab Fellow with the feature documentary “A Texas Son.” His last film, “A Night at Switch n’ Play,” won the audience award for Best Documentary at New York City’s NewFest Film Festival. His projects have screened at over 50 festivals internationally, including BFI Flare, Frameline, Woodstock, Indie Memphis, & Inside Out film festivals

 

They graduated from New York University with a BFA in Film & TV and an MA in Documentary Practices, earning a Dean’s Award for his work. Originally from West Texas, Cody recently moved from NYC to Los Angeles and is a proud dad of an orange cat who is enjoying the LA sun.
